Ways to turn knowledge into action and action into service

I donate my time and efforts to mentoring individuals on career and education decisions that make them more effective servants. Much of it is informal, but I also speak to groups. Whether laid off or just starting a career, whether changing careers or transitioning from the military into civilian life, I've been delighted to coach and advise individuals on making decisions that integrate their faith and ideals into daily living. In addition to my undergraduate and graduate teaching work, I've also made myself available to people starting or going through degree programs by helping them decide on an academic path to follow and how to stay on that path by writing effective papers.

I also donate time and effort to developing practical tools that help organizations integrate servanthood principles into their activities. I point organizations to open source (mostly free) software and Internet applications and can tell organizations about web site design and free hosting services. In the past, I've also given organizations strategic planning tips, reviewed policies, taught business methodologies, and created synchronization calendars.

My book, Your Unfinished Business: Find God in Your Circumstances, Serve Others in Theirs, explains the spiritual foundation of servanthood. In response to requests, I've since formalized it into programs on personal development and organizational leadership. The programs can also support fund-raising and are free to churches and other non-profits.

 Planning

What's right for you?

Keynotes and seminars. Ranging from 15 minutes to an hour, keynotes and seminars acquaint listeners with the topic in levels of detail appropriate for the time available. Keynotes usually don’t include practical exercises, but seminars may.

Workshops. Focused sessions from 2 hours to a half-day on a single topic, designed to explore the topic’s details. Workshops engage participants in practical exercises to reinforce the learning. Longer workshops will qualify participants to lead their own small groups on this topic.

Retreats and conferences. Keynotes focus participants on specific aspects of the topic to prepare them for more intense interaction during breakout sessions.

Consultation, facilitation, charettes, and coaching. One-to-one or one-to-a few pro bono engagements with non-profit organizations or individuals to accomplish a specific objective.

What are the topics?

Growth track (personal growth). Based on my book Your Unfinished Business: Find God in Your Circumstances - Serve Others in Theirs. The number one question is how to integrate faith and ideals into daily living. Our unfinished business too often seems a matter of figuring out what to do with our lives when it should be about making real what we know our focus to be. Becoming servants is how we can get from one to the other and these keynotes and workshops equip participants to do that.

Leadership track (organizational leadership). The Internet and proliferation of many types of media means organizations can expect greater scrutiny. This means they have to demonstrate a strong understanding and application of servanthood principles. These keynotes and workshops help organizations' leaders achieve that level of organizational maturity.
